Day Hab's Renovation & Expansion
Indication of need
Our day habilitation program is designed to empower and support individuals in developing and sustaining essential life skills while fostering community integration and engagement. By taking part in this program, clients are further developing essential employment skills, gaining confidence and enhancing their quality of life.
The current space for the day habilitation programming limits the number of clients served as well as the variety of services provided. On May 1, 2024, Life Skills Training Center purchased a building that once renovated, would allow us to triple the number of clients served. Additionally, LSTC will be able to add many more skill development programs, as you will see in the description below.
About the Space
At this newly renovated location, individuals with disabilities will receive support in developing and maintaining life skills and community integration. The new facility will have:
- Gymnasium: will have basketball hoops, treadmills, and exercise bicycles that clients will be able to use to stay physically healthy.
- Kitchen: for meal preparation and cooking classes.
- Garden and art room: spaces for gardening and art expression
- Theater: entertainment and guest presentations
- Sensory room: clients will find solace and comfort in a sensory room filled with gentle music, soft lighting, and soothing textures.
The new facility will allow us to serve more individuals as well as expand the variety of skill development programs offered. Currently, we are limited to the number of clients to serve at the day habilitation facility due to size. A renovated facility would allow us to not only triple our clients served but also extend service offering to higher and lower levels of care.
Currently, the building is a large warehouse which we will convert to spaces that are filled with energy and others that are quiet.
